Standard 8.1 Educational Technology: All students will use digital tools to access, manage, evaluate, and synthesize information in order to solve problems individually and collaboratively and to create and communicate knowledge.

Strand A. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems and operations.

  • Students will be able to identify the different components of a computer and how to properly use them: monitor, keyboard, mouse, Smartboard, Smartboard pen
  • Understand how to open PowerPoint or Microsoft Word
  • Understand how to open a new document and insert pictures

Strand B. Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge and develop innovative products and process using technology

  • Developing a PowerPoint presentation to acknowledge current research on grammar
  • Students learn the various Parts of Speech songs recorded for them by their teacher on PowerPoint

Strand C. Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others

  • Students gather their own information based on their projects and share with the other peers in their group
  • Students present their PowerPoint presentations to other classmates in the school.
  • All students learn the different songs and apply what they learned to better understand the different Parts of Speech: Noun, Verb, and Adjective.

Strand D. Digital Citizenship: Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.

  • Students will save their resources from where they obtained the clipart and paste it to their word document
  • Students will understand the value of citing resources by means of self-guided work and application

Strand E. Research and Information Literacy: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

  • Identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives in a sentence
  • Use the information gathered to interpret, understand, and apply their skills in their journals and PowerPoint presentation

Strand F. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision-Making: Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources

  • Using the information researched, the students will create sentences using the Parts of Speech: noun, verb, and adjective.
  • By working together and applying ideas, students will be able to make concrete decisions on what is best for their PowerPoint projects.

8.2 Technology Education, Engineering, and Design: All students will develop an understanding of the nature and impact of technology, engineering, technological design, and the designed world, as they relate to the individual, global society, and the environment.

 

  • Students will use their environment to label different Parts of Speech
  • Students are responsible for researching and collecting data on Microsoft PowerPoint

 

Strand A. Nature of Technology: Creativity and Innovation:  Technology systems impact every aspect of the world in which we live

  • Using Microsoft Word to document their findings
  • Using PowerPoint to present their research
  • Listening to the teachers PowerPoint presentation through the Smartboard to learn the songs on the Parts of Speech

 

Strand B. Design: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision-Making: Knowledge and understanding of human, cultural and societal values are fundamental when designing technological systems and products in the global society.

 

Strand C. Technological Citizenship, Ethics, and Society: The design process is a systematic approach to solving problems.

  • Students are to understand the importance of the different parts of speech by ways in with they use them in a sentence
  • By use of technology, the students are able to research, understand, and interpret ways in which to use the different parts of speech

 

Strand D. Research and Information Fluency: The designed world is the product of a design process that provides the means to convert resources into products and systems.

 

Strand E. Communication and Collaboration: Computational thinking builds and enhances problem solving, allowing students to move beyond using knowledge to creating knowledge.
